Father's Bulletin Letter 11.10.2024
Nov 08, 2024
Greetings,
This coming Monday is Veterans Day. On that day we offer our gratitude and pay tribute to all of our veterans without whom we could not exist as a nation and have the freedoms we have, particularly the freedom we enjoy to practice our Catholic faith. Please pray for all veterans, consider coming to Mass that day to pray for them and if you know of such a person, thank that vet for his or her service.
IN OTHER NEWS:
PRAYER: The USCCB published this prayer for veterans which would be fitting to pray on this day:
Lord God, Almighty Father,
creator of mankind and author of peace,
as we are ever mindful of the cost paid for the liberty we possess,
we ask you to bless the members of our armed forces.
Give them courage, hope and strength.
May they ever experience your firm support, gentle love and compassionate healing.
Be their power and protector, leading them from darkness to light.
To you be all glory, honor and praise, now and forever. Amen.
CATHOLIC WAR VETERANS AND AUXILIARY: The Catholic War Veterans (CWV) was founded at Immaculate Conception Parish in Astoria, Queens, New York in 1935. In May of that year, Pope Pius XI gave his Apostolic Blessing to the organization and expressed his support for its mission. The Department of Ohio chartered in 1945, and the Auxiliary followed in 1952. It is the only Congressionally Chartered veterans service organization that is religious in nature. Its members love their faith and are proud of their service to our nation. They continue that service through their programs centered on Catholic Action, Americanism, Youth Activities and Veterans Welfare.
If you are a veteran or related to a veteran to within two degrees, you are invited to join and care for “those who have borne the battle” with a Catholic spirit. They are working towards starting new Posts and Auxiliaries in multiple parishes in Ohio. See elsewhere in the bulletin for more details or contact CWV directly at Department of Ohio, CWV -- 614-221-7601 -- ohiocwv@sbcglobal.net -- cwvohio.org. Veterans played an important role in the growing and expansion of this parish and her ministries and that selfless mindset of service can continue through CWV.
Of this group, Bishop Malesic said, “I applaud the good works of the men and women of the Catholic War Veterans and Auxiliary who tirelessly serve those who have bravely sacrificed so much in military service for our country. I encourage the faithful to learn more about the Catholic War Veterans and Auxiliary and consider lending your support. Through the intercession of St. Sebastian, patron saint of the Catholic War Veterans, may God bless the work they do in assisting all U.S. service veterans, bringing the love of Christ to veterans and their families though their generous works of mercy.”
IMPORTANT THINGS TO REMEMBER:
SCAMS: I will never ask you to buy gift cards for me because I am “busy”. This is a scam happening all across the diocese. No matter how urgent the request is (and if it were urgent, I would not send an email to you) please ignore such requests or call Cathy Sivec in the parish office to check the legitimacy of the request.
ANOINTING: Anointing of the Sick should take place at the onset of serious illness. Do not wait until the last minute! You may not be able to find a priest!
ANOINTING MASS: There will be an Anointing of the Sick Mass on December 7. Anointings will follow the 4:30pm Mass that day.
CONCERT NEXT WEEKEND: Our very own Mr. David Uschold we be the organist for the Lynn Frey-Steward Memorial Scholarship Concert on Sunday, November 17 at 4pm in the church. Donations from this concert will provide scholarships for those wishing to study the organ. This promises to be a great concert and I hope to see you, your families and your friends there!
God bless,
Fr. Valencheck
