Father's Bulletin Letter 11.3.2024

Nov 03, 2024

Greetings,

Happy half a century birthday to the Rev. Christopher Trenta, a graduate of St. Sebastian Parish School and who was in residence at the rectory for a number of years when he was home from studies in Rome. Fr. Trenta is not only my cousin, but a friend of mine and of this parish. As such, he will be celebrating the 4:30pm Mass this Saturday, November 2 after which St. Sebastian is hosting a dinner for him and a few of his priestly friends in the rectory. God bless you Fr. Trenta! Happy Birthday!

IN OTHER NEWS:

VOTING: Tuesday, November 5 is Election Day. If you have not yet voted, the diocese has some helpful resources for you. In your search engine type in “Diocese of Cleveland Faithful Citizenship Resources”. It should take you to a helpful search page. Please keep our nation in your prayers through the election
process.

DAYLIGHT SAVING: For those of you who read the bulletin early: Don’t forget that this Sunday at 2am Daylight Saving Time begins! We FALL BACK and gain an hour of sleep.

VEGETABLE GARDEN: All of the flower beds and gardens are being put to sleep for the winter. One of the gardens that might not be so readily on your radar screen is the Parish School/Good Samaritan Hunger Center Garden on the south side of Byrider Hall. It is estimated that, this year, over 600 pounds of produce was harvested from the garden. Thank you to all of the volunteers and students who worked so diligently on this project!

CONCERT COMING: Mr. David Uschold will give his premier concert as the Director of Music at St. Sebastian Parish on Sunday, November 17 at 4pm. While free and open to the public, there will be a free will donation taken up at the end of the concert to benefit the Lynn Frey Steward Organ Scholarship Fund which helps provide funding for young organists to continue taking lessons. One of the driving reasons for establishing the Academy of Culture and Arts (ACA) was to encourage more budding musicians to take up organ because organists in general are becoming more scarce and many universities are giving up on their organ departments. Help keep quality organ music alive while enjoying a concert! I hope to see you and anyone else you can encourage to be there.

SPEAKING OF MUSIC: Mr. Scott Mason, Headmaster of the ACA made mention of this at the last staff meeting and I thought to share it with you: There are currently over 70 students in our school band! That is fantastic! There are many high schools that do not have that many musicians in their bands! Also, Mr. Beshore reports that most of the students in the upper classes are in the choir. It is great to walk around the school with the dog and hear music pouring through the school windows.

MORE TROPHIES: Every year during Lent I try to get rid of stuff in the rectory and it all seems to just get replaced with more stuff that needs to find space. Such as it is with trophies in the school. If we were going to hold on to all of the trophies for sports, academics, and other achievements, we would need to add a wing on to the school. Here are just the most recent additions to the collection: For the Boy’s Division III State Championship 3rd place, Diocese of Cleveland CYO 6th Grade Soccer Tournament Runner-Up, Diocese of Cleveland Cross Country CHAMPIONS, and Middle School Cross Country State Championship Boy’s Elementary Championship CHAMPS!

God bless,
Fr. Valencheck
