Father's Bulletin Letter 3.9.2025

Mar 07, 2025

Greetings,

Congratulations! to all our confirmands who received the sacrament of Confirmation this past Friday night. His Excellency Bishop Woost was the celebrant marking his first visit to St. Sebastian since being named Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of Cleveland.

An auxiliary bishop is named by the Holy See to a diocese that already has a bishop in order to assist that bishop in his duties. An auxiliary has the full rank of bishop and is often later tapped to move on to head up his own diocese. Interestingly, however, a bishop must be a bishop of some place that doesn’t already have a bishop and so auxiliaries are given titular bishoprics of places that no longer exist as dioceses. Bishop Woost is titular bishop of Sertei. He can’t travel there because then, by canon law, he would have to take over!

Also, we were pleased to welcome the confirmands from St. Bernard Parish and from St. Mary Parish. There is an effort to combine parishes for confirmation in order that the bishop can reach more students at each visit. It made for a wonderfully full church.

Thank you to Keith Johnson and all our faculty, catechists and volunteers for making this day a success! Please keep all our students in your payers.

IN OTHER NEWS:

BISHOP WOOST MISSION: If you didn’t get a chance to see Bishop Woost on Friday, fear not! You have an opportunity coming up for our PARISH MISSION beginning on Sunday, March 16 and continuing through Tuesday, March 18. Each session begins at 7pm.

OTHER LENTEN EVENTS TO CONSIDER: Diocesan Wide Night of Confessions will take place on Wednesday, March 19 from 5pm - 8pm. You may visit any parish church in the diocese which should be open for the sacrament on that evening.

In the Padre Pio Chapel (in the old baptistry) there is a display of relics. Come visit St. Newman, St. Maria Goretti, St. Vianne and a host of others. There is also the painting of “Christ Being Placed in the Tomb” which will be on display until it is time to put our Tomb Scene back up.

SIGN UP TO COVER AN HOUR OF ADORATION MARCH 19: We would like to have the Blessed Sacrament exposed during the Night of Confessions and whereas there is a certain amount of confidence that there will be people there all three hours, we need to make sure. Please see the sign-up sheet on the altar rail by the Blessed Mary statue. We need adorers between the hours of 5pm and 8pm.

PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL: It is time to nominate yourself or one of your fellow parishioners for Parish Pastoral Council. The Council meets once a month as well as participates in various activities during the year. CLICK HERE to visit the Parish Council page and access the nomination form.  Please prayerfully consider a deeper role in the life of your parish.

God bless,
Fr. Valencheck
