Father's Bulletin Letter 4.16.23

Apr 13, 2023

Greetings,

Thank you to those who caught the misprint in last weekend’s bulletin letter! Let me make up for it this week. On this Divine Mercy Sunday, there is a Plenary Indulgence available to us. For those who would like to take advantage of this opportunity, the following conditions are to be fulfilled:

  • Sacramental confession within about 20 days before or after.
  • Eucharistic communion preferably on the day, or the days before or after.
  • Prayer for the intentions of Supreme Pontiff [certain prayers are not specified].

In any church or chapel, in a spirit that is completely detached from the affection for a sin, even a venial sin, take part in the prayers and devotions held in honor of Divine Mercy or in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament exposed or reserved in the tabernacle, recite the Our Father and the Creed, adding a devout prayer to the merciful Lord Jesus (e.g. Merciful Jesus, I trust in you!”) The Chaplet of Divine Mercy will be recited following Masses this weekend.

IN OTHER NEWS:

CONSTRUCTION: Work has begun on the brick drive in the courtyard of our school. Workers appeared early on Easter Monday and began removing the bricks. They are attempting to set some of the better bricks aside for your use. I noticed some of you picking them up that day already!

Also, over break you may have noticed a window company working in our school. As part of our continuous efforts to improve school safety, the windows on the ground level are being reinforced in the unlikely event that they need to withstand any malicious activity. If nothing else, it is good for peace of mind.

Previously it was reported that Mull Avenue would be closed beginning Easter Monday morning. I went outside with Joan of b’Arc to see everything still the same as last week. Apparently, they want to finish the waterlines before the next phase of road replacement begins, which may be another week or two. You will be informed as soon as things develop. Whatever the state of the workday be, the parish is always accessible from other side streets and, of course, there is plenty of parking in the brick parking lot.

Thank you so much for grinning and bearing it! Keep up the spirit!

THANK YOU: It takes an army to make a great celebration of the Triduum and Easter weekend. Thank you to everybody who came and those who did extra to make it special for those who came to worship and give thanks. There were so many people who did so much and I find it treacherous to point out any particular person or groups because there are so many, but there are two who did something so new and interesting for us that I thought you might want to know about.

Those who were following the progress with our new tomb scene saw it built, found Jesus in it after Passion Sunday, witnessed the stone rolled across the entrance on Good Friday, and later found the stone rolled away and tomb empty, which took place during the Easter Vigil! Thank you to Terry Tolson for this facet to our celebrations!

Also, mention must be made of Carly (Smith) Palitano who hand painted our new Paschal Candle! If you get the chance, come up and take a closer look at it. The talent and patience that this took is more than obvious. Thank you for giving us a candle to honor God that is a work of art and unique to St. Sebastian.

God bless,

Fr. Valencheck
