Father's Bulletin Letter 6.18.23

Jun 14, 2023

Greetings,

Happy Father’s Day to all of our dads. How vital you are to the life of the Church and the relationship your children have with The Father. We know that the better the relationship that a child has with his father, the better relationship that child is able to form with his or her Father in heaven. Thank you, dads, for all of the ministry that you do and perhaps even that of which you are unaware. Many blessings to you this day.

IN OTHER NEWS:

CONSTRUCTION NEWS: On Friday of last week, Ryan Arto (our intern) and I walked the possible paths for our Eucharistic Procession and that is when we discovered that the construction was going to extend as far down as Greenwood as it does! By that time, it was already too late to send you a heads up. It also made for an interesting procession route. (Just keep thinking how happy we will be in a few months!) The latest news is that the crews expect to start pouring concrete in the road bed in front of St. Sebastian at the end of this month. That is the first step before the eventual laying of the new brick surface. Mull Avenue is difficult to cross on foot at the moment, I know. Thank you to those who brave the Forest Lodge walk! If that crossing is a bit much for you, I recommend either driving down to Hawkins or Mineola and approaching the parish from the south. There are no hazards from that direction. (It will all soon be over!)

THEOLOGY ON THE ROCKS: This coming Monday night, the Rev. G. David Bline and myself will be speaking at TOR about vocations and our stories as we bring our 25th anniversary celebrations to an end. (We are classmates if you didn’t know.) Please come join us for the evening. See in the bulletin elsewhere for more details.

MISSION APPEAL: Next weekend we will hold our annual Mission Appeal. Every year, each parish in the diocese is assigned a missionary to come and present a talk to inform its people about the work of their various ministries around the world and to ask for support. This year St. Sebastian will be visited by Sr. Jacinta Kimaro who represents the Evangelizing Sisters of Mary who work primarily in Tanzania-Zanzibar, Kenya, Uganda, Sudan and Cuba in South America. They minister in arid/desert places, in war areas and in the most remote places with single parents, slum dwellers, desperate drop-out youths, street children, refugees, parents and children affected with HIV/Aids. Sister will, undoubtedly, bring this all to life for you. Please pray for her and her sisters and their ministry and consider making a contribution to assist them.

JAZZ AND WINE FESTIVAL: Our annual BrickStreet (although the bricks are missing at the moment) Jazz and Wine Festival is just around the corner! Thursday, June 29, we will gather once again in the courtyard for jazz, refreshments and good company. Tickets are on sale now. See elsewhere in the bulletin for details.

THANK YOU: Thank you to everybody who participated in and assisted with Fr. Ian Kelly’s Mass of Thanksgiving and our Eucharistic Procession. What a wonderful day that was. Please pray for vocations.

God bless,

Fr. Valencheck
