Father's Bulletin Letter 11.17.2024

Nov 17, 2024

Greetings,

This Sunday, November 17 at 4pm in the church, Mr. David Uschold will be performing on our magnificent organ for the Lynn Frey-Steward Organ Scholarship Concert. This concert is free and open to the public, but there will be a free-will offering all of which will go toward lessons for a budding organist. As universities cut their organ programs and organists are becoming more difficult to come by, this scholarship was put into place to help promote and train organists, so that there will be musicians for the future.

Besides for your own enjoyment, these concerts are also about developing audiences. This is a great opportunity to begin instructing your child how to attend a concert and you can accomplish this without the cost of an expensive ticket. There is ample help online for ideas on how to help your child be a good audience member.

On top of all that, David is just a fantastic organist. I was worried after Lynn retired that we would have to make do with simply adequate music as musicians truly are becoming more difficult to find, but we are fortunate to have him here. Often a number of people stick around to hear him play his prelude and offer up a little applause so this promises to be a great concert. Grab your family, friends, and strangers who just happen to be walking down the street and join me in enjoying this concert.

IN OTHER NEWS:

ADVENT CANDLES: Advent begins in two weeks on December 1! Thanks to Cathy Sivec there are advent candles and Oplatek (Christmas Wafers) available for sale at the doors by the Padre Pio Chapel. Supplies are limited.

NIGHT AT THE RACES: NATR is right around the corner! Get your tickets now! Every time we come up on an event I think, “This is one of my favorite events,” and eventually I figured I say that for almost everything we do! I hope you can come enjoy it with me and Fr. Marcelli who will be experiencing it for the first time.

MORE CONCERTS COMING: With advent beginning on December 1, we will also have Adoration with Noon Organ Recitals every Tuesday during advent. The concerts are short and provide a wonderful aid to adoration. Also, on Tuesday evenings, Compline and Benediction will be sung and accompanied by organ.

WE GIVE CATHOLIC: On Tuesday, December 3, St. Sebastian Parish and School are participating in #weGiveCatholic, Northeast Ohio’s Online Day of Catholic Giving, “Creating Welcoming Spaces.” We will be raising money to refresh the Church’s Quiet Room, Bride’s Room and to update the Narthex speaker. Visit the information table located in the Narthex afer Mass or see elsewhere in the bulletin.

God bless,
Fr. Valencheck
