Father's Bulletin Letter 2.7.21
Feb 04, 2021
Greetings,
Next Friday, February 12th at 7PM there will be an Anointing of the Sick Mass. The anointing of the sick is not only for those near the point of death. In fact, especially in these uncertain times and periods of lockdowns, it should not be put off until that point. This sacrament for the sick is also to help those who are seriously ill to aid them through their sickness or malady. Therefore, this sacrament, intended for those who have reached the age of reason, is to be administered at the onset of serious illness, before surgery, and as one enters into old age. If one has recovered and becomes ill again, or if a person has a chronic condition that has worsened, or if it has been a long period of time since that person with a long-term condition has been anointed, the sacrament may be celebrated again. It is not intended for minor or common ailments.
Of course, we are still in the heat of a pandemic and if you have any serious concerns about coming to church, different arrangements should be made. This is a separate Mass from our normal schedule and so we anticipate fewer people. That means that there should be ample space for distancing although the sacrament still requires that a person be touched by the celebrant. If you have further concerns or questions, please contact Fr. Simone at (330) 836-2233.
IN OTHER NEWS:
MINISTRY FOR PRAYING FOR THE SICK: You are invited to join in a Spiritual Work of Mercy of praying for the sick. The parish has a prayer line for those who need prayer to call in. Those names are passed on to those who make a special effort to pray for the person. If you would like to take this ministry on, all you have to do is to send Annette Brady your name and contact information at abrady2057@gmail.com and requests will be forwarded to you. Thank you for your consideration!
PRAYING FOR OUR DEPARTED: We have a great ministry of persons who will show up to pray at funeral Masses. Often families are reeling from death or perhaps have been away from Mass for a long time and it is so beneficial to have a small congregation present not only to pray with them, but to make the responses. During this time of COVID when people may stay away from Mass, it is comforting to have a few more people present to pray - albeit at a socially safe distance. If you’re interested in being part of this Spiritual Work of Mercy, please call the rectory to get added to the notification list.
DO YOU HAVE YOUR PLAN? Ash Wednesday and the kick off of the lenten season is coming up on Wednesday, February 17th. There is a little bit of time yet but not that terribly much. Now is the opportunity to get a spiritual plan together! What do you want to accomplish spiritually, physically, and mentally for the glory of God, for your benefit and the good of the people in your life? Who do you want to be at the end of this solemn season? What works of prayer, fasting and almsgiving will be of greatest benefit? This spiritual opportunity is right around the corner! Be prepared to engage!
PARISH COUNCIL: Parish Council nominations are being accepted. There are nomination slips (for yourself or someone that you think would make a good council member) in the lobbies of the church. Please drop them in the collection basket or bring them to the rectory at your earliest convenience.
God bless,
Fr. Valencheck
