Anointing of the Sick Mass

Feb 04, 2021

Next Friday, February 12th at 7PM there will be an Anointing of the Sick Mass.  The anointing of the sick is not only for those near the point of death.  In fact, especially in these uncertain times and periods of lockdowns, it should not be put off until that point.  This sacrament for the sick is also to help those who are seriously ill to aid them through their sickness or malady.  Therefore, this sacrament, intended for those who have reached the age of reason, is to be administered at the onset of serious illness, before surgery, and as one enters into old age.  If one has recovered and becomes ill again, or if a person has a chronic condition that has worsened, or if it has been a long period of time since that person with a long-term condition has been anointed, the sacrament may be celebrated again.  It is not intended for minor or common ailments.

Of course, we are still in the heat of a pandemic and if you have any serious concerns about coming to church, different arrangements should be made.  This is a separate Mass from our normal schedule and so we anticipate fewer people.  That means that there should be ample space for distancing although the sacrament still requires that a person be touched by the celebrant.  If you have further concerns or questions, please contact Fr. Simone at (330) 836-2233.
