Initiated in 2020, the St. Gabriel Fund was established to support the live-streaming as well as the recording and broadcasting needs of St. Sebastian Parish. This could include (but not be limited to) the purchase of technology-based equipment (cameras, controllers, cables, tablets, connectors and associated application software) as well as licensing fees. St. Gabriel, the Archangel, was selected as the name for this fund since St. Gabriel serves as a messenger for God and is the patron saint of messengers, telecommunication workers, and postal workers. It was St. Gabriel who “broadcasted” to Mary that she would become the mother of the Son of God.
BACKGROUND: During the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic of 2020 and due to the “stay at home” orders by the Governor and the Diocese of Cleveland, Fr. John Valencheck (Pastor of St. Sebastian Parish) initiated a “stay connected” communication effort with the parish members. This included a daily Angelus letter that was communicated via email as well as daily mass online and other “virtual” parish events (Rosary, Stations of the Cross, Organ Concerts, etc.) in order to help parish members and interested parties stay connected with their faith and parish.
